Artist Statement
Since first picking up a camera in London in 2007, the practice has continued through encounters with landscapes and people in many different places.
The photographs are not simply records of what lies before the eyes.
The shutter has been pressed to preserve in memory the sensations received from the world in those moments
— sensations that exist before words, and things that quietly remain in the heart and body.
Light, temperature, scent, sound, presence — the sensations that arise through encounters with nature and other people. At the heart of this exploration is a question: What do we receive from the world that allows us to live?
Photography is a way of looking closely at what happens within us when we come into contact with the world, and of preserving the memories of those sensations.
Beyond photography, the practice extends into words, places, and everyday ways of living, exploring forms of time and space in which people can reconnect with the senses they already carry within themselves.
Within this practice, attention turns to what flows between people and the world.
What stirs and opens within us at the moment we come into contact with the world?
This question will continue to be explored through different forms of expression.
